New Sung Hwa, nestled on the first floor of Jalan Okk Awang Besar in Labuan, Malaysia, has carved a niche for itself as a beloved seafood destination. Customers rave about the freshness of the seafood, with dishes like the addictive fried squid taking center stage. Diners appreciate the reasonable pricing; one reviewer mentioned enjoying seven dishes for just RM266.5, showcasing its value.
The restaurant offers a distinct ambiance with options for both air-conditioned and open-air seating, allowing guests to relish the scenic river views. However, it’s best to come without haste, as the kitchen emphasizes quality over speed, a trait many diners respect. Some have noted the restaurant's rustic charm, reminiscent of old-school eateries, with nostalgic touches like peanut and jeruk betik served as appetizers.
While the decor may not dazzle, the culinary experience certainly does. The black pepper crab, albeit sweeter than its Singapore counterpart, captures local flair, while garlic prawns have garnered high praise. Despite a few comments on the acoustics and narrow stairway access, the emphasis remains firmly on the delectable dishes, making New Sung Hwa a must-visit for seafood lovers in Labuan.

Very nice seafood .very fresh. Squid fried flour is so addictive .7 dishes only rm266.5. The vege also very young and fresh. I recommend everyone to try this restaurant . NO PORK BUT GOT SERVE ALCOHOL
Went there for dinner during 4 days 3 nights staycation. The wind from the sea is definitely nice for sunset scenery. Food was tasty with reasonable price that my children love it! They served peanut & jeruk betik which reminds me those old days when you go for old style restaurant. Love the oldy style eatery a lot! Don't go there if you are in rush because they serve quality food with heart...
This seafood restaurant has been here decades ago. It is probably the oldest seafood restaurant in Labuan. They occupy two lots on the first floor and access is via a stairway at the furthest end of the shops. But do take care climbing the steps as it can be wet and the restaurant obviously does not bother with keeping it dry. They have an air conditioned section as well as one with natural ventilation. The well enclosed air conditioned section can get cold and acoustics is horrible - solid walls without curtains lead to echoing sounds and some slightly high and irritating chatter volume. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very much a typical coffee shop type. But come here for the food. It is well cooked and tasty. Off course, don't expect much variety during poor weather (monsoon) periods. This restaurant does not have tanks with live fish in it but their seafood is either fresh or frozen.
There’s air conditioned indoor seating and outdoor seating with ceiling fans and river views. Seafood was fresh. Picked the live mud crabs myself. Their black pepper crab was a little sweet, can’t taste the black pepper. Maybe that’s the local style compared to black pepper crabs in Singapore. Garlic prawns was amazingggg! Overall, still delicious food!
Nearly just walked on past, but I was thirsty and needed a beer. Accidentally stayed for dinner. This place loved up to the ratings and the saying In Asia, it's about the food not the decor. The staff were super friendly and made concessions for me being an ignorant westerner (which I am). I ordered too much food (hence some plates are still half full in the photos). But the grouper was fantastic, the veg indulgent and the rice absorbant. The beer (San Mig Light - not what I'd usually go for) refreshed perfectly. The view over the bay was aweeome too.
This seafood restaurant recommended from we staying the hotel reception women. The restaurant is New Sung Hwa Seafood restaurant in Labuan. We are 4 adults & 2 kids, order steam fish, baby lobster, Malay Kangkung, prawn & lala, prawn they passed wrong to next table. I was recommended the baby lobster, Malay Kangkung & steam fish very yummy & fresh. Lala so so only, got one smell “xing” taste can’t accept! We also got order drinks. The place in first floor need use staircase to climb up, old ppl & wheelchair no convenient, got air con & open air place, drive from terminal ferry Labuan just 5 min. Price reseanable & quite cheap, foods 4 dishes & drinks just rm183 only.
Great food and at reasonable prices and portion. Air conditioned restaurant and have outdoor seatings too. Limited parking as next door is a hotel? Almost couldn’t find this restaurant until I saw that the address is at Level 1. Definitely will come back again to try more with the family.
